Dear All,
Consumer Rights for Community Living (CRCL) is initiating a campaign to address the increased difficulties seniors and people with disabilities are having with MUNI since the cuts in services. CRCL has received many complaints about this, especially regarding people who use wheelchairs who are being passed up by overcrowded buses. We want to encourage everyone to report complaints to Muni by calling 311. But we know that many people feel that their complaints are ignored, so we are asking riders to call CRCL as well so we can compile a list of incidents to take to our local elected officials and government agencies.
We’ve attached a two-sided flyer about how to register complaints; it’s translated into English, Spanish, Chinese and Russian. You can help us get the word out to consumers who are frustrated with the overcrowding.
Consumers can call fill out a form and send it in, call us at 415-703-0286 or email us at helpline@planningforelders.org
We’ll help people register their complaints!
We hope to gather our information over the next two months, then take it to the MUNI board, MAC meetings, Board of Supervisors and others who have the ability to address these issues.
Please help us get the word out!
Thanks so much,
Donna Willmott

The goal is to send 5000 letters to the members of the Assembly and Senate Budget Committees in opposition to the Governor’s proposed budget by May 21st.
Any letters that you are planning to fax, should be sent to the District Office of each Legislator not the Capitol office. You will find a list of District Fax Numbers attached for your use.
To submit an online version, go to the “Alerts” section: www.cfilc.org. If you decide to use the online feature it will require you to add a personalized message. That message can be a sentence or two or an additional paragraph. It’s whatever you are comfortable adding.

ILRCSF, in coalition with the Mayor’s Office on Disability, has launched an online campaign to gather support for our Statement of Values that reads as follows:
Disability is a natural part of the human condition. People with disabilities come from all walks of life, in all colors, sizes, genders and ages. Those of us living with disabilities bring something to the table whether it is fresh perspective, political savviness, indomitable spirit, energizing presence, bold intellect, etc. We contribute to society BECAUSE of who we are. Human difference and diversity enriches community. Disability is not special, it’s just a part of life. We are asking everyone to sign in support of this rational view of disability and to help spread the word far and wide!
What you can do to help:
1. Sign the online Statement of Values
2. Friend us on Facebook
3. Follow us on Twitter
4. Follow our blog

The courts ruled that the Governor had no legal authority to prevent anyone with a felony conviction from working as an IHSS provider. Only those who have been convicted of child abuse, elder abuse or defrauding Medi-Cal or any patient can be prohibited from IHSS work for a period of 10 years.

The MTA is proposing to raise the cost of discount passes for seniors and people with disabilities to $30 on April 1. This will hit our community hard, as people are on shrinking incomes, with fewer benefits and more out of pocket expenses. Come make your voice heard when the SFMTA Board of Directors holds a special meeting on Friday, January 29, 2010 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall in Room 400. You can make public comment about this at the beginning of the meeting.

On January 5, San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to urge the state’s Department of Social Services to remove the ban preventing people convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor from serving as an IHSS provider. Our thanks to Supervisors Avalos, Mar, and Dufty and Mirkarimi for sponsoring this resolution, and to the many IHSS workers, IHSS consumers and other community members who came out to testify about the impact of this provision on their lives.
